Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy varies in application and pressure on or around a client’s body or energy space. Massage therapy is experienced as relieving stress and pain, as well as relaxing or stimulating depending on the desired effect. Massage applications include compression, friction, and manipulation of the muscles and other soft tissues, such as the digestive organs and lymphatic vessels of the body.
Techniques are most often named for specific body systems, which benefit from massage therapy and/or bodywork. These systems and therapies include myofascial for muscles, fascia and ligaments, Neuromuscular Reeducation (NMT) & trigger point, Muscle Energy Technique (MET), Light Touch Treatment –Neural Energy Alignment Technique (NEAT), visceral [gut] manipulation, hara abdominal work, blood & lymphatic |
circulation, somatoemotional, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) for mouth & jaw and craniosacral. Massage techniques are also named for specific client groups such as fibromyalgia client care, certified labor [birth] doula and infant massage, geriatric massage, athletic sports preparation and rehabilitation.
